LIFE+ MarPro Documentary: Marine Protected Areas

One of the main objectives of the LIFE+ MarPro Project is to elaborate the proposal of new Natura 2000 network offshore areas and their management plans with reference to Phocoena phocoena, Tursiops truncatus and Puffinus mauretanicus.

In August 2015, the first step to achieve this long process as arrived and the Council of Ministers approved the creation of Special Protection Areas (SPAs) of shallow cable and Aveiro/Nazaré as well as the alteration of the boundaries of SPA of Cape Espichel and the SPA of the southwest coast. The staff at Life+ MarPro, welcomes these advances in the implementation of the Natura 2000 network in the marine environment and it is with redoubled spirit which awaits the completion of the parallel process on the definition of marine SCI for the conservation of cetaceans.
